Romanian History Lesson Plan

Activity Plan


I. (evocation) 2 min

You now will be split into groups of 3 -4 pupils (from each country)and you will have two minutes to write down, what words you associate with the term ‘CHILDREN’S GAMES’ on a post-it. (2 min)

(5 min)

Now you need to send your leader/representative to say what you wrote and the teacher will organize the key words on the board, and try to systematize them into three columns:

1. INDOOR GAMES;

2. OUTDOOR GAMES;

3. VIRTUAL GAMES;

How many games did you find?

What do you say of a painter who succeeded to

paint 80 games in one single

artwork and also over 100 proverbs also in

one artwork?

Do you think this is even possible?




II. (learning) (10 min.)

You will have to fill on your worksheet 5 rubrics about one game from Breughel’s work Children’s Game (painted in 1560). Your group leader/representative from each group will link on the www.thinglink.com map the game you have on the worksheet (each group will have 5 different colour on his flag/number of tag), while the others have a chance to

complete the answer.

Exercise 1:

G1. What links can you find between outdoor games of Pieter Breugel and those played by children nowadays?

Please explain.

G2. What kind of historical events influenced Breugel

to paint episodes from common people’s life?

G3. Which games (outdoor or indoor) do you recognize

in Breugel’s work? What could be the reason for drawing these scenes?

G4. How many characters and games are drawn in Children’s Games? Are there also adults or only children?

G5. Discuss, what kind of conclusion can be made on this works, why are games important for children?

What can they learn?


Exercise 2: (2 min)

Draw on your post-it a children game (outdoor/indoor).



III. FEED-BACK AND EVALUATION:

Did you encounter other artists painting children’s outdoor games?

After you draw came to the board and make an art puzzle of children’s games.


The majority of games painted by Breughel are still played after 2000 years, like morra, knucklebones or blind man’s buff.
